Pros & Cons

Advantages

  • Loans available from as little as R500, which suits small urgent needs
  • Repayment terms up to 180 days give you some breathing room compared to pure payday lenders
  • 35% per annum is at the lower end for this loan size category
  • Appears to work through retail points which may suit borrowers without easy online access

Disadvantages

  • No public website found, which makes it hard to check rates, terms or eligibility before applying
  • We could not verify NCR registration independently, which is a real concern
  • Trust score of 4.8 out of 10 based on customer reviews we collected is not reassuring
  • No first loan free offer, which several competitors in this bracket do provide
  • Limited customer reviews available, only 26, making it difficult to draw firm conclusions about the experience

About FeverTree Finance

If you need a few thousand rand and you've come across FeverTree Finance, slow down before you apply. This lender operates in the short-term credit space, offering loans from R500 up to R9,000 with terms that can run anywhere from a single day to six months. That flexibility sounds appealing on paper.

But here's the thing. FeverTree Finance doesn't have a public-facing website we could find, which immediately makes it harder to compare their offering against the rest of the market. They appear to work partly through intermediaries and retail channels rather than a straightforward direct-to-consumer online model. That's not automatically a dealbreaker, but it does limit transparency.

We scored FeverTree Finance 4.5 out of 10, placing them at number 26 out of 37 lenders we've reviewed. Their trust score based on customer reviews we collected sits at 4.8 out of 10. Neither number inspires confidence. There are better options available at similar rates.

How Does FeverTree Finance Work?

1

1. Contact FeverTree Finance through their retail or intermediary channel. Since there's no website, you'll likely need to visit a physical point or go through a broker who works with them.

2

2. Submit your application documents. This includes your ID, proof of income and recent bank statements.

3

3. They assess your affordability under NCA guidelines. This step can take anywhere from a few hours to a full business day depending on how your application comes in.

4

4. If approved, you'll receive a loan agreement outlining your repayment amount and term. Read it before you sign anything.

5

5. Funds are paid into your bank account. Timing varies, but most short-term lenders in this space pay out within 24 to 48 hours of approval.

Requirements

Who Is FeverTree Finance Best For?

FeverTree Finance is aimed at working South Africans who need a small short-term loan between R500 and R9,000, typically to cover an unexpected expense before payday. It may suit people in areas or situations where applying online isn't straightforward and who prefer dealing through a broker or retail point. It's not designed for large borrowing needs.

Is FeverTree Finance Safe & Legit?

We could not independently confirm FeverTree Finance's NCR registration number at the time of writing, which is worth noting. Any legitimate credit provider in South Africa must be registered with the National Credit Regulator under the National Credit Act. Before you sign anything, ask them for their NCR registration number and verify it at ncr.org.za. You also have the right to approach a debt counsellor under the NCA if you ever struggle to repay.

Registered Credit Provider (NCR)

Our Full Review

Let's start with what actually matters. On a R5,000 loan over 90 days at 35% per annum, you're looking at interest of roughly R431 for that period. That's before any initiation fees or monthly service fees, which the NCA permits lenders to charge on top of the interest rate. So the real cost of that loan is likely higher than 35% once all the regulated fees are included. Always ask for the total repayment amount, not just the rate.

The 35% annual rate is actually not bad for this loan category. Many short-term lenders charge closer to the maximum permitted under the NCA, which works out to around 60% per annum for this loan size. So on the rate alone, FeverTree Finance isn't gouging you. That's one genuine positive.

But the lack of a website is a problem. Not because online applications are mandatory, but because it removes any ability to check your eligibility, read the full terms, or compare their fee structure before you engage with them. You're essentially going in blind until someone explains the deal to you face to face or over the phone.

The customer reviews we collected paint a mixed picture. With only 26 reviews and a trust score of 4.8 out of 10, there isn't enough data to call this clearly good or clearly bad. What we can say is that other lenders in this range have significantly more reviews and higher scores.

So is it worth applying? Only if you've already checked your better-ranked options and they didn't work out. FeverTree Finance isn't a lender we'd put at the top of anyone's list given the transparency issues, but the rate structure is at least reasonable. Verify their NCR registration first. That's non-negotiable.

Terrible service and they don't take accountability for their mistakes. Should be 0 stars not 1

I opened an account with Fever Tree Finance to finance a purchase through We Are Gamers. During the application process, I made a mistake with the amount and immediately contacted them. Over the phone, I changed the amount I was applying for and explicitly asked for confirmation multiple times that the monthly installment and all policies were correct. I was clearly told yes, the installment would be R694, and that this was the confirmed amount. Because I have had debit order issues in the past, I contacted them as a precaution to ask for banking details in case I needed to pay manually. That is when I was suddenly told that the installment amount was different and higher, despite never being informed of any change. Every single piece of communication and documentation I received from Fever Tree Finance — including emails and debit order mandates sent between the 21st and the 26th — clearly stated an installment of R694. If the amount changed on the 21st, then why was I still being sent documentation for days afterward showing the old amount? At no point was I notified that the installment had changed, nor was I sent any corrected or updated documentation. When I called to query this discrepancy, instead of assistance or accountability, I was met with rude and dismissive behavior. I was told I “should read what I sign,” with strong implications that the mistake was mine — despite the fact that I re**** on the written documentation they sent me and verbal confirmations from their agents. This situation was caused by poor communication and a lack of transparency, yet I was treated as if I were at fault. I am now locked into a 24-month agreement based on information that was inconsistently communicated. I am very unhappy with both the service and the way this matter was handled. Once these 24 months are over, I will not deal with Fever Tree Finance again, and I would not recommend them to anyone. I made the mistake of falling into this ****, please read the reviews AND STAY AWAY FROM THIS ****MING COMPANY

INCORRECT DEFAULT COURT JUDGMENT AND NEGATIVE CREDIT LISTING BY FEVER TREE FINANCE/ FURNITURE WAREHOUSE

FORMAL COMPLAINT – INCORRECT DEFAULT COURT JUDGMENT AND NEGATIVE CREDIT LISTING BY FEVER TREE FINANCE/ FURNITURE WAREHOUSE I hereby lodge a formal complaint against Fever Tree / Furniture Warehouse regarding an incorrect default court judgment and negative credit listing that has been recorded against my name, which is materially prejudicing my credit status. In or around 2022, I entered into a credit agreement with Fever Tree / Furniture Warehouse for the purchase of furniture. However, the agreement was not honoured by the supplier in the following material respects: 1. The furniture items ordered were not delivered within the agreed timeframes. 2. The full order was never delivered, despite repeated follow-ups and correspondence. 3. Notwithstanding the above, Fever Tree / Furniture Warehouse commenced debiting my bank account, and I also made manual payments in good faith, despite the contract not being fulfilled in full. Despite their failure to perform in terms of the agreement, Fever Tree / Furniture Warehouse proceeded to: • Claim an incorrect outstanding balance, • Obtain a default court judgment against my name, and • Record a negative listing on my credit profile, without properly resolving the dispute or accounting for non-delivery and payments made. I dispute both the existence and the amount of the alleged debt. The claimed balance is not correct, as it does not take into account: • Goods not delivered, • Partial fulfilment of the order, and • Payments already made by me. I further wish to place on record that I am in possession of emails, payment records, and supporting documentation which clearly demonstrate that: • Fever Tree / Furniture Warehouse failed to deliver the full order, and • Their claim and subsequent default judgment are factually incorrect and misleading. REQUESTED RELIEF I respectfully request the Ombudsman to investigate this matter and to direct Fever Tree / Furniture Warehouse to: 1. Remove and rescind the default court judgment recorded against my name; 2. Remove all adverse credit listings relating to this account from all credit bureaus; 3. Write off the disputed debt in full, as it is incorrect and arises from their own breach of contract; and 4. Provide written confirmation that my credit profile has been corrected accordingly. This matter has caused me significant prejudice and reputational harm, and I submit that the conduct of Fever Tree / Furniture Warehouse is unfair, unreasonable, and contrary to consumer protection and credit legislation. I am willing to submit all supporting evidence upon request and look forward to the Ombudsman’s intervention to resolve this matter fairly and lawfully. Thank you for your attention to this complaint. Yours faithfully Bafana Ndebele

Bad Account Service

"I have been a loyal client for 7 years. I have never missed a payment and never been late. Not once. I have a good credit limit available on my account, which I strictly use for emergencies. Now, when I am in a genuine emergency (broken glasses that need immediate replacing), I am being forced to reapply and jump through hoops with ridiculous bureaucratic requests. When I called the Accounts Department for help, they were unhelpful, rude, and treated me like a ******** rather than a loyal customer. If this is how you treat a perfect payer with a 7-year history, you do not deserve my business. I am cancelling my debit order immediately and will be settling the remaining 3 payments on my own terms before closing this account for good. Do not use this company if you expect support in an emergency."

Terrible experience, they refuse to close my account

Terrible experience, they refuse to close my account. I requested for a statement of account to close my account. They sent it to me, I paid the amount in full and made them aware that my bank account is closed and will be paying via eft. After I made the payment they tried to debit another amount from my bank account, which I don’t know what it is for. I contacted them to close the account again, they told me to pay another amount to close the account, which they I did. I followed up again for the third time, now they are telling me to pay an additional amount because they tried to debit my bank account and it bounced. Some of the telephone consultants are very rude, another one said she is reaching out to management and never got back to me. They are just sending me from pillar to post.

FeverTree Finance Professional Con Artists

You would think that if you paid something off before 3 months it would be treated as cash. Not only do they up the price there's also a whole lot of extra charges. Whether you pay the item off quickly or not they charge all kinds of extras and hold you responsible. This isn't the first time I've had problems with this kind of thing. Moral of the story is pay cash and don't be duped by con artists.

Terrible service: Lack of communication between FeverTree and OptiPlan.

I have purchased glasses from Specsavers using FeverTree Finance. For some reason an entity named Opti plan works together with FeverTree in providing this finance. Problem is when OptiPlan makes a mistake FeverTree does not accept any responsibility for the mistake and the customer (me) suffers because of it. I changed my bank details for the OptiPlan / FeverTree debit order when I thought I got an account with FNB. They subsequently cancelled my application so I had to go back to old bank account. This has caused the problem I have because OptiPlan failed to change it back to my old bank account despite me sending my account details confirmation letter three times. Because of this my debit orders didn't go through and I have been peanlised for that mistake. Penalties include admin fees charged for debit order not going through and not being able to make a purchase at Decofurn. I have an email from Fever Tree saying the finance was ready only to find out when I went to the store (which costs me R300 travel costs) that the finance was not ready. I then receive a call while I am at Decofurn from Fever Tree saying my finance is ready. It was not. I then receive an email finally telling me that OptiPlan is at fault and that the amounts owing need to be settled before my finance for Decofurn is ready. FeverTree and OptiPlan need to communicate better instead of playing the blame game with the customer, who in this case, has not made the mistake. I have pleaded with FeverTree, before posting this review, to give me access to the funds for Decofurn before the item I want is sold but they just keep referring to me to OptiPlan instead of sorting it out with OptiPlan.. Terrible customer service and I won't be using FeverTree / OptiPlan again and I don't think anyone else should.

I just want to say a big thank you to all of you at Fever Tree Nursery for the wonderful experience I had during my visit. From the moment I arrived, I was met with kindness, patience, and genuine helpfulness from every staff member. You all made me feel so welcome, and nothing was too much trouble. The atmosphere at your nursery is something truly special – it felt like I had stepped into a peaceful forest, far away from the world. So calm, so beautiful… just what I needed! Please also extend my appreciation to the manager and every single team member who contributed to making my visit so memorable. The warm service, stunning plants, and peaceful surroundings are something I’ll always remember. Thank you once again for everything – I’ll definitely be back! Warm regards, Corne Lubbe

Worst service ever

If i could give a negative star review i would.they are the worst credit provider ever. They will most likely come up with some excuse to save their own reputation but they take advantage of you and the amount you get as a settlement or even just monthly installment is always higher with them everytime . Your monthly statement amount and what other people tells you and they all work for the same company is different your statement will say X amount then when you ask on their whatsap line for a settlement amount they give you amount Y then on the email it gives you amount A Etc. i will 100% never recommend them at all . I had all my friends that wanted to support them but now they longer will.

They took my money now they don't want to pay me back

I would like to express my disappointment with the service I've received from these guys. I paid the settlement on the 4th of May and I sent them the proof of payment and they said they will allocate it and it will reflect into my account. They decided to debit R2003 from my account which is money I need to pay school fees for my child which in fact I no longer owe them anything at this point. I called them last week Monday and they said they will pay me back and it will reflect Wednesday 28th of May but I did not receive anything. I called them again and they said nothing was allocated and they will work on it, they apologized and said they will allocate it and my money will reflect on Friday. I called them again and they said it will reflect today but still. Right now my patience has run out and I will have to escalate this issue. I want my money back.

Violation of consumer rights

Fevertree Finance is the worst organization I have ever associated myself with. What happened is that we agreed that I was gona pay a standard/same installment for the period of 24 months for financing my spectacles. The next thing they debited my account with a 12.5% increase without my approval, yet we have agreed that the amount was not going to change. That act is not acceptable as I believe is violation of consumer rights.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can I borrow from FeverTree Finance?

FeverTree Finance offers loans from R500 up to R9,000. The amount you actually qualify for will depend on your income, existing debt obligations and their affordability assessment. Don't assume you'll get the maximum on your first application.

What interest rate does FeverTree Finance charge?

They charge 35% per annum. For context, that's on the lower side for short-term lenders in South Africa, where rates can legally go much higher for small loan amounts. That said, you'll also pay initiation and service fees on top of the interest, so ask for the full cost in rand before you sign.

How fast does FeverTree Finance pay out?

We don't have confirmed payout times from FeverTree Finance directly. Based on how similar lenders in this space operate, you'd typically expect funds within 24 to 48 hours of approval. Given the lack of an online application process, the overall timeline could be longer.

Is FeverTree Finance registered with the NCR?

We could not independently verify their NCR registration at the time of writing. Before you apply, ask them for their NCR registration number and check it yourself at ncr.org.za. Any lender operating legally in South Africa must be registered.

Can I get a FeverTree Finance loan with bad credit?

Short-term lenders in this bracket sometimes work with borrowers who have impaired credit, but they are still required by the NCA to run an affordability assessment. A poor credit record will reduce your chances and may affect the amount offered. There's no guarantee of approval.

What documents do I need?

You'll need your South African ID, a recent payslip, 3 months of bank statements, proof of residence not older than 3 months, and a bank account in your own name. Have these ready before you apply to speed things up.
