🛡️ Our Honest Take

Let's talk about what 35% per annum actually means in rand. On a loan of R5,000 over 90 days, you're looking at roughly R437 in interest, bringing your total repayment to around R5,437 before any fees. That's not outrageous by South African short-term lending standards. Some lenders charge double that. So the rate itself isn't the issue here.

The issue is trust, and there's not much of it.

Out of 37 lenders we've reviewed and rated, Credit Intel sits at number 36. Their trust score based on the 13 customer reviews we collected is 2.0 out of 10. That's not a rough patch or a bad month. That's a consistent pattern of borrowers having a bad experience and saying so. The specific complaints point to poor communication, unexpected deductions, and difficulty resolving disputes, which is particularly worrying given that this is a business that started as a debt collector.

And that's really the thing you need to sit with. A company whose primary function is recovering money owed to other businesses also offering you credit is an uncomfortable combination. It doesn't mean it's illegal. But it does mean the culture of the organisation may not be borrower-friendly in the way that a dedicated credit provider's would be.

We also couldn't find a working public website for Credit Intel. No online application, no published fee schedule, no clear contact page. For any financial product, that kind of opacity is a problem. How do you compare costs? How do you verify their NCR registration? How do you know what you're signing?

So is there any reason to choose Credit Intel over the 35 better-rated providers on our list? We genuinely struggled to find one. The rate is fair, but fair rates are available from lenders with real websites, decent reviews, and a track record of treating borrowers properly. Start there.

CreditIntel is unprofessional and *********

CreditIntel is unprofessional and *********. My TransUnion report showed a listing for R5,845, which I settled on 27 February 2026 by paying R5,850. Now they are claiming extra 'fees'—first R2,700, then suddenly R2,100. They are charging me for 'Communication Fees' from 2024, but their own recordings prove they were calling a wrong number that is not mine. I demand my Paid-Up Letter and an immediate update to my credit profile

Unnecessary correspondence

Have a account that I have been paying with them for almost 5 years. Looked at the statement, thee charge a person twice in one month for the same thing. They even charge for sending a receipt. Where I asked them to stop sending this useless info. Today all the lady could say was, pay more on the account then you will pay it off earlier. When asked if I pay the full amount she said there client doesn't allow for a discount. You need to pay the full amount. Yes but stop sending letter for unnecessary stuff. And then she said they send it to a email and a sms. Hello I'm a grown up I know that I need to pay and I don't need reminders or acknowledgements. Once a year is more then sufficient. I will never finish paying this account of if I pay 1200 per year and your fees are 420 per year.

CREDIT INTEL ****S AND HARASSING PEOPLE

I have received a outstanding account of R1933 from Credit Intel on a message about a year ago. I went to Centlec Bloemfontein and have gotten the proof from Centlec Bloemfontein that i am not owing anything to them. I then mailed the proof with zero balance to them. After obtaining me email address they have now started to send me terrible messages and emails. They could not provide me with any documentation of the said account, This account is 20 years old since i vacated the property they say i owe money.

Credit Intel – Harassing Me for a Random R10 000 Debt From a Company I’ve Never Heard Of

If there was an award for Harassment of the Year, Credit Intel would win without even trying. I am being chased for R10 000 supposedly owed to “Computech” — a company I’ve never bought from, never signed with, never even seen in my life. At this point, I’m convinced they just spin a wheel in the office and pick a random person to bother for fun. Their professionalism? Non-existent. You phone them for clarity, and they reward you by putting the phone down in your ear like it’s part of their training manual. “Step 1: Harass. Step 2: Hang up. Step 3: Repeat.” I am reporting this because I’m tired of being contacted for a **** debt that doesn’t belong to me. If they have proof, they can show it. If not, they can stop wasting my time. Absolutely unacceptable. Sort this out.

STOP HARASSING ME FOR A PRESCRIBED DEBT

Dear CreditIntel Debt Administrator: This correspondence relates to the numerous calls you have made and the daily harassment you continue to inflict on me over what you have described as an alleged debt that is allegedly owed to Walter Sisulu University. The total amount of the alleged obligation is said to be R10699.12. I want you and everyone else concerned to know that I do not owe Walter Sisulu University any money. Accordingly, your claims are disputed and ******* under the law—they are invalid. The Prescription Act 68 of 1969, sometimes known as "the Act," governs prescription in South African jurisprudence. This idea is crucial in figuring out which debts are still enforceable and due. As a result of prescription, a debtor is no longer legally obligated to pay back an old debt due to the passage of time, as specified by the Act's time periods for each type of obligation. Prior to moving forward with this, I would want to remind you that everyone in this nation is entitled to legal protections in accordance with the provisions of numerous laws. As per Section 10 (1) of the Prescription Act 68 of 1969, the customers or debtor are likewise protected in this situation, accordingly, a debt is prescribed if during the past three years: · You did not admit to owing on the debt, either verbally or in writing; · You have not made payment towards the outstanding amount; · Summons was not issued and served on you. Furthermore, Section 126B of the National Credit Act (NCA) (Act No. 34 of 2005) handles the concept of prescribed debt in consumer credit agreements. It forbids the sale, collection, or reactivation of debts eliminated by prescription under the Prescription Act. This means that if a creditor does not pursue a debt for a set period of time (often three years for most consumer debts), it cannot be collected, sold, or pursued legally. In light of the aforementioned legalities or legislations, as well as other applicable laws, I respectfully request that you cease from pursuing me regarding the purported debt—I do not owe Walter Sisulu University any money. I made no commitment or acknowledgement of any debt, either in writing or by phone. Please remove my name from your debt record and update your system. Refrain from bothering me over this matter. Olwethu Z. Mhaga **********

Impossible communication

I cannot get feedback. Invoice amounts is not corresponding and no-one answers an email. In the meantime I am constantly threatened with escalated steps. They have been given proof of payment and yet, I keep getting sms with increased amounts. It is as if they are making money of customers and makes it impossible to actually settle an account

**** Artists in Suits – Credit Intel and Impact Meters are Partners in Crime!

I am beyond disgusted with the appalling service and ********* behavior I’ve experienced from Credit Intel, particularly from a so-called "consultant" named Jane Maaboi. Let me make this clear: what you people are doing is not just unprofessional, it's outright daylight *******. I am currently disputing a *****ulent claim with Impact Meters, who have the audacity to demand that I pay a water bill for a unit I never even occupied. While this dispute is ongoing, instead of investigating or resolving it properly, Impact Meters handed the matter over to their partner in crime, Credit Intel. Clearly part of the same syndicate, to start harassing me with emails and SMS's demanding payment. I spoke to Jane Maaboi, explained everything, and she told me to send her an email so she could “follow up” with Impact Meters. I did just that. But instead of helping, her company sent me another demand and this time, the amount had mysteriously doubled. When I called her again, she casually said to “ignore” the message until she hears back from Impact Meters. Fast-forward to now, I’m still getting hounded by Credit Intel for a disputed and inflated amount, and Jane Maaboi has now vanished. She doesn’t take my calls, doesn’t respond to emails, nothing. Her colleagues are just as unhelpful, robotic, and dismissive. All they keep saying is “Just pay the money.” No investigation. No accountability. No professionalism. This isn’t debt collection, it’s ******ion. It’s shocking that these companies are allowed to operate like this, preying on innocent people and bullying them into paying money that isn't even legitimately owed. They ignore disputes, inflate amounts, and then terrorize people into compliance. DO NOT TRUST Credit Intel or Impact Meters. They are nothing but a **** operation wrapped in a corporate façade. They have no interest in resolving anything fairly, only in squeezing every last cent out of people by force. You’ve been warned. These people are bloodsuckers, and they should be exposed for the ****** they are.

Cease and Desist – Harassment Regarding Unacknowledged and Disputed Debt

Cease and Desist – Harassment Regarding Unacknowledged and Disputed Debt To Whom It May Concern, Good day. I am writing to formally raise a serious complaint and demand immediate cessation of all communication regarding an alleged debt that I do not recognize and have no knowledge of. Over the past almost 10 years, I have been repeatedly contacted—via threatening SMSs and other means—about a debt I have disputed multiple times, yet you continue to pursue me in breach of my rights. In 2016, I received a “Notice – Payment Not Received”, which listed the address as 8 Seder, P****long, Tembisa, Gauteng 1632. This address is not, and has never been, associated with me. I do not know this place and strongly doubt whether the address even exists. I have never lived there and have no knowledge of the debt in question. Despite several calls and emails to your office over the years, I have: • Repeatedly requested proof of this alleged debt. • Received a so-called Client/Application Mandate and Agreement, which does not reflect my full name, contact number, or email address. • Clearly stated that I have never heard of "Computec", have never done business with them, and do not know what they do. • Requested the call recording that supposedly forms part of this "mandate"—only to be told it was not available. Furthermore, the initial amount listed in 2016 was R687.70, and now the SMS I received today claims the debt is R9,672.80. The discrepancy in the amount, combined with the total lack of valid documentation, only strengthens my belief that this matter is either *****ulent or based on incorrect information—possibly even identity theft. It was not me, and I will not be held liable for something I did not buy, use, or request. Your continued harassment, including messages such as: “WARNING: You will not get away with not paying this debt” is a direct violation of both the Council for Debt Collectors’ Code of Conduct and my rights as a consumer. I now formally demand: 1. That all communication ceases immediately. 2. That you provide verifiable proof of debt, failing which I consider this matter closed. 3. That you stop sending threatening or defamatory SMSs to my personal number. Should this harassment continue, I will escalate this matter by filing a formal complaint with: • The Council for Debt Collectors • The National Credit Regulator • And if necessary, the South African Human Rights Commission This has gone on far too long. I trust that you will now treat this matter with the seriousness and respect it warrants.

unfair charging of arrears by Impact Meter through their debt collectors Credit Intel

I had a very disappointing experience with this company. They sent me a communication claiming I owed money, but the invoice was confusing, listing multiple amounts. Initially, it stated that I owed around R400. I reached out for clarification and spoke with an agent named Lorraine, who was unhelpful and insisted I refer to the statements for answers. When I tried to contact the office for assistance from someone else, I was told that Lorraine was the only one who could provide clarity. Despite my repeated questions, she continued to direct me back to the statements. In just three weeks, the amount I supposedly owed doubled. When I contacted the company again to resolve the issue, I was informed that nothing could be done because Lorraine was the only person handling statements. The agents were rude, and it felt like they intentionally allowed accounts to accumulate arrears for profit. I believe this company operates *********ly, and I would not recommend them.

Credit Intel, unfair treatment with NAC, National Arts Council

I settled an account with them, last year, but after a few weeks, they demanded money again, claiming that I had been handed over to them for the second time, with the same reference, which means, they reopened the account I settled last year. Now they are harassing me with emails and SMS threatening to ruin my credit score. How can I be handed over twice for the same issue that I resolved, that is a **** according to me. They work with The National Arts Council (NAC)

Credit Intel

This company has been sending emails and SMS's for months now that I need to pay an outstanding amount to Impact Meter Services. The amount that they want keeps changing. They send an sms and say I owe R571 and then a few minutes later they send an email saying I owe R511 and this amount keeps changing every time they send an sms or email. I checked my Statement with Impact Meters and I dont owe them anything. I keep replying to the emails Credit Intel send and explaining that I dont owe money but they keep ignoring them. They are now threatening me that this will affect my credit score and they demand final payment as I have made no efforts to communicate with them. Ironically it is them that keep ignoring the emails I send. I dont believe they have any grounds that can affect my credit score as my account is settled with Impact meters. This very much looks a **** and I am looking for other ways to escalate this situation.

Harassment from Credit Intel

I previously had an account with Impact Meters for my electricity, which I paid monthly. However, the property owner sold the flat, and I was given one month's notice to vacate. When opening the account, Impact required a deposit, which I expected to be settled when I moved out. After vacating, I received and paid the final invoice from Impact. Despite this, I have been receiving monthly emails from Credit Intel, with escalating fees. I don’t understand why the fees are increasing by R100 every month for such a small amount. I refuse to pay these charges as I have no dealings with Credit Intel, nor did I apply for credit from them. Who can I report this to?
