Pros & Cons
Advantages
- ✓ Interest rate of 35% per annum is within a reasonable range for short-term lenders
- ✓ Loan amounts from R500 make it accessible for very small borrowing needs
- ✓ Flexible terms from 1 day to 180 days give some repayment options
- ✓ Covers a range of borrowing needs from emergency cash to slightly larger amounts up to R9,000
Disadvantages
- ✗ Ranked 34 out of 37 lenders in our assessment. That is near the bottom of the pile.
- ✗ Trust score of 4.8 out of 10 based on customer reviews we collected is genuinely poor
- ✗ No accessible website at time of review, which makes it very hard to verify terms, fees, or NCR registration
- ✗ No first loan free offer, which most competitive short-term lenders provide to new customers
- ✗ Very limited customer review data, and what exists does not paint a positive picture
About SA Credit Check
If you are hunting for a short-term loan and SA Credit Check came up in your search, slow down for a second. We looked at this credit provider carefully, and the picture is not particularly encouraging. They offer loans from R500 to R9,000 over terms as short as one day and as long as 180 days, with a stated interest rate of 35% per annum. On paper, that rate is not outrageous. But there are enough red flags here to give any borrower pause.
The trust score we collected from customer reviews sits at 4.8 out of 10. That is not a score you want to see from a lender you are about to hand your bank details to. Only 11 reviews came through in our analysis, which is a thin sample, but the sentiment was not warm.
We gave SA Credit Check an overall score of 3.2 out of 10, ranking them 34th out of 37 lenders we assessed. That tells you most of what you need to know. There are better options available to South African borrowers, and we would suggest you explore those first.
How Does SA Credit Check Work?
1. Visit the SA Credit Check website and complete the online application form with your personal, employment, and banking details. This typically takes around 10 to 15 minutes.
2. Submit supporting documents including your ID, recent payslips, and bank statements so the lender can assess your affordability as required under the NCA.
3. Wait for a credit assessment. SA Credit Check will run a check on your credit profile and determine whether you qualify and for how much.
4. If approved, you will receive a loan agreement to review and sign. Read it carefully before you accept, especially the fees and total repayment amount.
5. Once the signed agreement is received, funds are transferred to your bank account. Payout timelines are not clearly advertised, so expect anything from same-day to a few business days.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older with a valid South African ID document
- Proof of regular income, either a payslip or bank-confirmed salary deposits
- 3 months of recent bank statements showing income and expenses
- An active South African bank account in your own name
- A working South African mobile number and email address
- Proof of residence not older than 3 months, such as a utility bill or lease agreement
Who Is SA Credit Check Best For?
SA Credit Check is aimed at employed South Africans who need a small cash amount quickly, somewhere between R500 and R9,000, and can repay within six months. If your credit score is not perfect, you might be considering them as a fallback option. But given the low trust score and limited information available, even borrowers with few other choices should weigh this one carefully.
Is SA Credit Check Safe & Legit?
We were unable to independently confirm SA Credit Check's NCR registration number at the time of this review, and their website was not accessible for verification. Any legitimate credit provider in South Africa must be registered with the National Credit Regulator under the National Credit Act. You have the right to request their NCR registration details before signing anything. If a lender cannot provide that, walk away. You also have the right to free debt counselling if you ever find yourself in over your head.
Registered Credit Provider (NCR)
Our Full Review
Let's talk about what 35% per annum actually means in rand. On a loan of R5,000 over 90 days, you would be looking at interest of roughly R431, bringing your total repayment to around R5,431 before any initiation or service fees are added. Those fees, charged under the NCA, can add another R600 or more depending on the loan amount. So the real cost of borrowing is higher than the headline rate suggests. Always ask for the total cost of credit before you sign.
The rate itself is not the main problem here. Thirty-five percent per annum is on the lower end for short-term credit providers in South Africa, where rates can climb much higher. So why does SA Credit Check rank 34th out of 37 lenders we reviewed?
Because rate is only one part of the story. The absence of a working website is a serious concern. You cannot read the terms and conditions, you cannot verify their NCR number easily, and you cannot compare fees without contacting them directly. That lack of transparency is a problem in any financial product, and it is a bigger problem when we are talking about a lender handling personal and banking information.
The customer reviews we collected back this up. With only 11 reviews and a trust score of 4.8 out of 10, the feedback is thin and not encouraging. Complaints tend to centre on communication and the overall application experience rather than the rate itself.
So is it worth applying? Our honest take is no, not before you have tried other registered, transparent lenders first. The rate has some appeal. Everything else about this picture gives us pause. If you are in a tight spot and need cash quickly, there are lenders ranked much higher on this site who offer comparable amounts with clearer terms and better customer experiences. Start there.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much can I borrow from SA Credit Check?
SA Credit Check offers loans from R500 up to R9,000. The amount you qualify for will depend on your income, credit profile, and affordability assessment as required under the National Credit Act.
What interest rate does SA Credit Check charge?
The stated rate is 35% per annum. That is actually on the lower end compared to many short-term lenders in South Africa. But remember that initiation fees and monthly service fees get added on top, so always ask for the total cost of credit in rand before you agree to anything.
How fast does SA Credit Check pay out?
SA Credit Check does not clearly advertise payout timelines on a publicly accessible website. Based on typical short-term lender processes in South Africa, you could expect anything from same-day to two or three business days after your signed agreement is received.
Is SA Credit Check registered with the NCR?
We could not independently verify their NCR registration at the time of this review due to the absence of an accessible website. Any lender operating in South Africa must be registered with the National Credit Regulator. Ask them directly for their NCR registration number and check it at ncr.org.za before you hand over any personal information.
Can I get a SA Credit Check loan with bad credit?
Short-term lenders like SA Credit Check do sometimes consider applicants with impaired credit histories. But they are still required by the NCA to conduct an affordability assessment. Having bad credit will likely reduce the amount you can borrow and may result in a declined application.
What documents do I need?
You will typically need a valid South African ID, your three most recent bank statements, proof of income such as a payslip, proof of residence not older than three months, and an active bank account in your name.
