Let's start with the number that jumps out. CiTi Cash Loans advertises an interest rate of 5% per annum. For a short-term lender, that is genuinely low. Most short-term credit providers in South Africa charge rates that, when you factor in initiation fees and monthly service fees allowed under the NCA, translate to effective costs far above that. So either CiTi Cash Loans is unusually competitive, or there are fees you'll want to scrutinise carefully in the actual loan agreement before signing.
To give you a rough sense of costs at face value: on a loan of R5,000 over 180 days at 5% per annum, you'd be looking at interest of around R123 for the period. That's a very low number compared to what competitors often charge. But always check the total cost of credit figure in the agreement, not just the interest rate, because initiation fees and monthly admin fees are separate line items under South African credit law.
The repayment flexibility is one of the better things about this lender. One day to 180 days is a wide range. You can borrow R500 for a week or R9,000 for six months. That kind of range works for very different situations, which is not always the case with short-term lenders who lock you into 30-day cycles.
So what do customers actually say? Based on the 69 reviews we collected, the trust score sits at 8.7 out of 10. That's a solid result. Complaints about payout speed or customer service are not a dominant pattern in the feedback, which suggests the day-to-day experience is reasonably smooth.
Is it the best short-term lender in South Africa? No. At number 12 out of 37, it's in the top third but not at the top. The absence of a first-loan-free offer is a missed opportunity when competitors use it to attract new borrowers.
