About CiTi Cash Loans
If you need a few thousand rand to cover an unexpected bill and you want to pay it back within a few months, CiTi Cash Loans is one option worth looking at. They offer short-term loans from R500 up to R9,000, with repayment terms stretching from a single day all the way to 180 days. That kind of flexibility is not something every short-term lender offers, and it matters when you're trying to manage cash flow without getting buried in a repayment you can't afford.
That said, this is not a lender that stands out dramatically from the crowd. They're sitting at number 12 on our ranking of 37 South African lenders, which tells you there are better options out there but also plenty of worse ones. The customer feedback we collected is reasonably positive, with a trust score of 8.7 out of 10 from 69 reviews.
We gave CiTi Cash Loans a score of 6.4 out of 10. Decent but not exceptional. Worth considering, but compare before you commit.
How Does CiTi Cash Loans Work?
1. Go to citicashloans.co.za and fill in the online application form. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes and you'll need your basic personal and banking details ready.
2. Upload your supporting documents, typically your ID, proof of income, and recent bank statements.
3. CiTi Cash Loans reviews your application and runs a credit check in line with NCA requirements. This usually happens within a few hours during business hours.
4. If approved, you'll receive a loan agreement to sign digitally. Read it properly before you sign, specifically the total repayment amount.
5. Funds are paid directly into your bank account. Timing can vary, but same-day or next-business-day payout is typical for applications approved early in the day.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- South African ID document or smart card
- Proof of a regular income, whether salaried or self-employed
- 3 months of recent bank statements showing salary deposits or income
- A valid South African bank account in your own name
- Working contact number and email address
- Proof of residence not older than 3 months
Who Is CiTi Cash Loans Best For?
CiTi Cash Loans suits someone who needs a relatively small amount, think R500 to R9,000, to handle a short-term gap like a car repair, medical cost, or overdue account, and who has a stable income to repay it within six months. It's probably not the right fit if you need more than R9,000 or want a longer repayment window.
Is CiTi Cash Loans Safe & Legit?
You should always check that a lender is registered with the National Credit Regulator before handing over any personal information. NCR registration means a lender must follow the National Credit Act, which sets limits on fees and interest, and gives you rights around affordability assessments and a cooling-off period. If you're ever struggling with debt, you also have the right under the NCA to approach a registered debt counsellor. We recommend confirming CiTi Cash Loans' NCR registration directly on the NCR website at ncr.org.za before you apply.
Registered Credit Provider (NCR)
Our Full Review
Let's start with the number that jumps out. CiTi Cash Loans advertises an interest rate of 5% per annum. For a short-term lender, that is genuinely low. Most short-term credit providers in South Africa charge rates that, when you factor in initiation fees and monthly service fees allowed under the NCA, translate to effective costs far above that. So either CiTi Cash Loans is unusually competitive, or there are fees you'll want to scrutinise carefully in the actual loan agreement before signing.
To give you a rough sense of costs at face value: on a loan of R5,000 over 180 days at 5% per annum, you'd be looking at interest of around R123 for the period. That's a very low number compared to what competitors often charge. But always check the total cost of credit figure in the agreement, not just the interest rate, because initiation fees and monthly admin fees are separate line items under South African credit law.
The repayment flexibility is one of the better things about this lender. One day to 180 days is a wide range. You can borrow R500 for a week or R9,000 for six months. That kind of range works for very different situations, which is not always the case with short-term lenders who lock you into 30-day cycles.
So what do customers actually say? Based on the 69 reviews we collected, the trust score sits at 8.7 out of 10. That's a solid result. Complaints about payout speed or customer service are not a dominant pattern in the feedback, which suggests the day-to-day experience is reasonably smooth.
Is it the best short-term lender in South Africa? No. At number 12 out of 37, it's in the top third but not at the top. The absence of a first-loan-free offer is a missed opportunity when competitors use it to attract new borrowers. Our score of 6.4 out of 10 reflects a provider that does the job but doesn't do anything spectacular. Compare a few others before you decide.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much can I borrow from CiTi Cash Loans?
You can borrow between R500 and R9,000. That puts them in the small to mid-range bracket for short-term lenders in South Africa. If you need more than R9,000, you'll need to look elsewhere.
What interest rate does CiTi Cash Loans charge?
The advertised rate is 5% per annum, which is notably low compared to many short-term lenders in South Africa. That said, your total cost of credit will also include any initiation fees and monthly service fees permitted under the NCA, so always check the full agreement for the total amount repayable, not just the interest rate.
How fast does CiTi Cash Loans pay out?
Applications approved during business hours are generally paid out the same day or the next business day. Apply early in the morning if you need the money quickly, and make sure your documents are ready to upload so you don't cause delays on your side.
Is CiTi Cash Loans registered with the NCR?
Any legitimate credit provider in South Africa must be registered with the National Credit Regulator. We recommend verifying this directly on ncr.org.za before you apply. NCR registration is your assurance that the lender is bound by the National Credit Act.
Can I get a CiTi Cash Loans loan with bad credit?
Short-term lenders often have more flexibility than banks when it comes to credit history, but they are still legally required to run an affordability assessment under the NCA. A poor credit record won't automatically disqualify you, but it will factor into the decision. Be honest on your application.
What documents do I need?
You'll typically need your South African ID, your 3 most recent bank statements, proof of income, and proof of residence not older than 3 months. Having these ready before you start the application will speed things up considerably.
