Very poor service and extremely poor communication. Multiple follow ups were made, yet no proper response or assistance was provided. Important requests were apparently not processed despite assurances from staff, which caused unnecessary stress and serious inconvenience. There was little accountability, no urgency, and no meaningful feedback when it was most needed. Overall, a very disappointing experience. This company takes your money and does not pay your creditors of which confirmation was provided by my car finance company of which they terminated contract with Debt Buster which resulted in almost having my car repossessed in the process. DO NOT EVER MAKE THE BIGGEST MISTAKE BY DEALING WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!

DebtBusters: The Most Unprofessional, Hostile Customer Experience I’ve Had in Years
I am deeply disappointed with the service I received from DebtBusters. After reaching out for assistance, I was met with short, unhelpful email responses that did absolutely nothing to address my questions or the reason for my enquiry. To make matters worse, I was assigned a consultant named Jeanpi, whose conduct was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. This was, without exaggeration, one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I was spoken over, interrupted, and at one point shouted at, as a potential customer. That is shocking. As someone who is a Head of Customer Support, I can confidently say that this behavior reflects severe customer-handling issues. If this consultant worked under me, he would be removed from call duties immediately and required to attend a disciplinary proceeding for: Dereliction of duty Brand and reputational damage Failure to uphold basic customer service standards No customer, even a potential one should ever feel disrespected, dismissed, or mistreated when reaching out for help. This experience has completely destroyed any confidence I might have had in DebtBusters’ ability to support customers with professionalism and care. This was horrific service, and I am beyond disappointed. I DO NOT OR EVER WILL recommend this company to anyone.

I have been a client under debt review with your company and have made a consistent effort to monitor my balances closely. According to my latest statement, my WesBank account reflected as paid up. However, when I requested a paid-up letter, I received a response addressed to a completely different person, which immediately raised serious concerns about the accuracy of your records and communication processes. Following this, I was informed via email that I still allegedly owed more than R3 000 on my WesBank finance. The next day I received a call apologising for addressing me incorrectly, yet I was again told that I still owe money — despite my statement reflecting the account as settled. I was further informed that your statements are “simply an estimate,” which is extremely concerning, as clients rely on these statements to understand their financial position. This situation has caused confusion, frustration and a loss of confidence in the accuracy of your reporting. I therefore request the following: A full written explanation of the discrepancy between my statement and the alleged outstanding balance. An accurate, detailed account reconciliation reflecting all payments made. Written confirmation of the correct outstanding balance on my WesBank account. Assurance that my personal information and account details are being handled correctly and securely. I trust that this matter will be treated with urgency and professionalism. Please provide a written response within a reasonable timeframe so that this issue can be resolved without further escalation.

However when you trying to receive your clearance certificate it's takes between 1- 15 days to receive a response . If you complain 15 business working days... But then it's comes to debt Buster receiving money from you the are on their A Game !!!!! So lets balance this recieving money Vs Guest complaints... They can action your request immediately to take you money but complain you will HAVE TO WAIT 15 DAYS FOR A RESPONSE... 4 months with DebtBusters (Sept-Dec 2024): ✗ Paid R11,400 total ✗ R0 went to creditors (all to fees/insurance) ✗ My debt GREW R11,000 (interest accumulated while they collected fees) ✗ 86% of my debt rejected by creditor, no court application filed ✗ No legal protection after 4 months (they say 3-6 MORE months) ✗ Emails ignored for weeks ✗ Failed to stop illegal creditor debits (R1,140 stolen despite debt review) ✗ False confirmations about included accounts Where my R3,800/month went: Month 1: 99% to their fees Month 2: 72% fees, 24% insurance Month 3: Still R0 to debt DebtBusters made my situation WORSE, not better. Transferring to competent debt counselor in January. Other firms confirmed their timeline is absurdly slow (should have court order by month 4, not month 11). If you need: Actual debt reduction Communication Protection within reasonable timeframe Choose literally any other NCR-registered counselor. Filing NCR complaint. Do not recommend.

Debtbusters Dissapointing …
My experience with Debtbusters has been extremely stressful and disappointing. Since signing up in June 2025, communication has been poor and follow-through lacking. Once signed, calls and emails are often ignored, while fees continue to be deducted. I have sent more than 30 emails and made countless calls over several months trying to get basic issues resolved. The consultant who signed me up, Simbarashe “Simba” Chikuni, was very persuasive and assured me that Debtbusters would secure meaningful debt relief. I clearly advised him upfront that my bond was structured under a special interest rate and was unlikely to be reduced. This was dismissed, and I was assured it could be negotiated lower. This assurance directly influenced my decision to proceed. My assigned negotiator, Kundai Mutendevudzi, ignored this information and proceeded regardless. As expected, the bond was restructured at a higher repayment and higher interest rate, leaving me worse off. More concerning, she offered creditors payment amounts that Debtbusters had not agreed to collect from me, and failed to ensure those payments were made. This directly caused two creditors to cancel my payment arrangements. Emails to her went unanswered for extended periods, and she later admitted that critical matters had been “overlooked”. The matter was dealt with by Anelisa Makabeni. After a lengthy call that seemed promising, I waited weeks for feedback. Despite repeated follow-ups and further emails, no resolution was provided. When she eventually responded, it was with a vague, non-specific message that shifted responsibility back to me, referring to “arrears” created during this process without stating amounts, while confirming that Debtbusters’ fees remain payable despite no effective relief being in place.I followed up directly with Standard Bank and was advised they sent a proposal valid 10 days on 17 November 2025 and have received not response from Debtbusters. Once again failure on Debtbusters part which impacts me negatively. Overall, this experience raises serious concerns around fairness, accountability, and ethical client care. Based on my experience, I would urge others to approach Debtbusters with caution.
Extremely Slow Debt Review Process
Extremely Slow Debt Review Process – Regulatory Action Required Review: I engaged Debtbusters to remove my paid-up and prescription accounts from debt review. Despite submitting all required documents multiple times, I was given unrealistic timelines — 10 business days to verify documents and 21 business days for the credit bureau to remove flags. Communication was inconsistent: one representative claimed no ticket had been issued to remove the debt, while another promised to put everything in writing. These delays are entirely avoidable and reflect poorly on their operational processes. I have already lodged a formal case with the National Credit Regulator (NCR) due to these delays. Clients should be aware that even with correct documentation, Debtbusters may take far longer than legally reasonable to update files and issue clearance certificates. I urge Debtbusters to improve their process and ensure compliance with the National Credit Act, as prolonged delays can significantly impact clients’ financial wellbeing.
Don't Do It! Debt Review is a prison!
Whatever you want this company to do, you can do it yourself, if you can't afford paying off your debts, make arrangements, debt review is an everlasting hell!
No contact, no help, accounts in arrears
I am on my third payment with debt busters and I am so disappointed in their work. The initial process went smoothly and I had constant communication with the debt counselor. But after I signed the agreement all of a sudden I'm unable to reach out to any counselor via email. My accounts are in arrears and no one seems to be able to help me. They say I should ignore the message and they will deal with it with their legal team but my arrears keep going up. I'm trying to get some financial freedom but I seem to have dug myself into a bigger hole. My credit score has definitely been affected and I am just at a loss. Super surprised by their service as in the beginning they seemed to have their head on straight. Im genuinely disappointed in their service, to the point that I have to come on here to complain. I have emailed their escalation email but we will see if that even has any affect (I doubt it)

Firstly one of my creditors (UNIFI LOANS) deducted money on my account after Debt busters had advised they wont. But still money was debited and now they refusing to give me a refund.. They were not supposed to debit because they accepted that they will cancel the mandate.. I want this sorted ASAP!! Also the agent from debt busters promised me a confirmation letter, confirming im finishing paying off in June 2026 and i haven't received that!!! I need thid attended or I'll keep on writing reviews, I'll post on twitter and ombudsman until this is sorted!
This company is the worst
This company is the worst. They promise to relieve your financial stress bit instead they add to it. This is the 3rd month now that they do a double deduction leaving the bank account empty. No money to buy food and pay school fees. When we call they transfer you from the one department to the next without any help. Getting your money back is a nightmare of calls and emails. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. They add to your stress.

My advise Is to make arrangements with your credit providers directly In the meantime, please see below a detailed explanation of what Form 17.3 is: What is a Form 17.3 (Change of Circumstance)? It is a notice to inform credit providers why payments will not be made as per the proposed arrangement A Form 17.3 is a courtesy not a legally binding document and therefore credit providers may choose to either accept or reject the document We are obliged to send the notification to your credit providers however they are not obligated to respond So what happens after the form is issued? Credit providers may respond by acknowledging the form issued – in certain instances they will ask for a payment arrangement to determine how you will be making up for the payments missed. If you already have a plan please inform us thereof, we will then include it in the form Credit providers may terminate accounts even if the form was issued (Legal action) A review will be conducted within 3 months after issuance to determine the status of your accounts and to check if your circumstances have changed. Kindly note in certain instances we may suspend our services Service fees will still be payable to Debtbusters Below are the risks once the account has been terminated: You may be liable to pay the original instalment you paid before debt review application You may have to pay up the outstanding arrears on the account and this will be due immediately. The reduced interest rate will no longer apply, this means you will need to increase your payment toward your accounts to prevent the balances from increasing You will no longer be protected under the National Credit Act. We will no longer be able to mediate on your behalf regarding account enquiries if your accounts are terminated Please note that your Credit Life cover may lapse due to missed or short payments. We encourage you to continue making payments if possible or pay your assets directly to your credit providers

I was in the process of applying for debt review with debt busters, However I have realised that on their negotiations,there's nothing that will make any kind of relief for me, *secondly I realised that I'm misled in so many things,not everything is explained over the phone.eg,that my accounts won't be paid for 3 moths. *thirdly they are messing up my accounts in the sense that it's causing them to go into arreas fast. *fourthly,my bank account was interfered with such that I couldn't pay debit orders in time,some not paid yet. *Fifthly all my accounts were up to date,but now everything is falling apart. My medical aid,car,car insurances, burial covers and other policies affected(not paid) my bank account blocked because of them.What really frustrating they're not even responding to my calls and emails to assist me with anything I'm struggling with,already threatening about court orders as if I owe them money.My creditors have never had any problems with my accounts until now end October,you can check my profile,my accounts have been up to date now that it's all gone. After this company unlawfully lured me into an agreement which was subsequently cancelled. For the last few months I have been requesting to transfer my file to a new debt councellor which they are illegally refusing after all required documentation has been sent to them numerous times

It's been 5 months with debt busters, I have paid up a total of R11 000 in debt review already, I want to know how was it distributed because I was told during sign up that only the first R2200 will go to debt busters, the rest of the months would go to the creditors. Futhermore the dashboard shows that I have 7 months left (R2200 X 7) which is a total of R15400,I want to know how is this working because that is not near any close to the amount that is suppose to be remaining on my debt review.

Discovery & DebtBusters Payment Error — Now I’m Being Charged Unfair Interest
I’m very disappointed with the way this situation has been handled between DebtBusters and Discovery. I had an outstanding balance of R19,024.79 with Discovery. DebtBusters, acting on my behalf, made a payment intended for my Discovery Bank credit card, but the money was incorrectly paid into a Discovery Health account—an account I don’t even have. This error caused a delay in settling my balance, through no fault of my own. By the time Discovery eventually tracked and transferred the R19,024.79 into the correct Discovery Bank account, my balance had already ballooned to over R27,000 due to interest being charged during the delay. This is completely unacceptable. In total, I’ve now paid around R27,023 towards this debt, yet I am still being charged excessive interest, despite the fact that the delay and misallocation of funds were not my responsibility. To make matters worse, the communication throughout this process has been terrible. I’ve had to constantly follow up for updates, and there has been zero accountability for the error or the resulting charges. I should not be held liable for interest fees caused by someone else’s mistake, and I am requesting that these charges be reversed immediately. This experience has been incredibly frustrating, stressful, and unprofessional. I urge Debt Busters to resolve this matter urgently and fairly.

Conflicting information regarding debt consolidation and the monthly payments they deduct. We were advised that they would deduct one amount and what actually happened is that they deducted their amount but the other debit orders still went off. Now they are being uncooperative regarding the refund that was promised to us on Tuesday.

This company has mis informed me regarding there fees. I am now being paying there fees for the last 3 months and nothing is going towards my debt. I am totally disgusted. I needed help but instead got caught in a web of lies. I will put out the message to other people to becareful of.Debt busters . Your reply to this review seems like an automated one. So if you really value your customers and business you will get hold of me.

DENIED A REQUEST FOR WITHDRAWAL.
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the service I have received. I signed up for your debt review program to help manage my finances, but I have experienced several issues.i applied for debt review on the 14th may 2025 without knowledge that am not over indebted and decided to withdraw my application with them,then the debt counsellor by the name of songezo Ndzwane told me its possible for me to withdraw my application.These guy songezo also mistyped my email intetionaly so that i can not see whats going with the application i made.So i called on the 15th may 2025 to request for a withdrawal letter ,but i was taken from pillar to post.Then they told me they will request for a call back for me from their team to attend to issue,but the team leader did not call me back.Then i tried calling them again but their client service center kept on hanging up on my calls.Then i called again they told me to wait for the 17.2 rejection form.I asked why wait for 5 days for 17.2 rejection form,they told me thats how it works.debtbusters are ruthless and heartless,they feed on people on less knowledge regarding debt counselling.So guyz stay away from DEBTBUSTERS.BECAUSE AM BEING FLAGGED FROM ALMOST ALL CREDIT PROVIDERS.They led me to signing the application online with my knowledge yooh

Debtbusters got my car repossessed
Don't want to give a star but that is not an option. DEBTBUSTERS has terrible service. Do not trust them with your debt review.THey are neglegent. They did not pay credit providers as per agreement which resulted in me having my car repossessed. they don't communicate or give feed back. When you get feed back it is vague and not helpful. I still don't know if i will get my car back

Giving this company a 1 star, as 0 stars or half a star is not possible. What mistake I made in trusting them to assist me. Half explanations, ineffective communication, not listening to the client, to name but a few things I have issue with, with dealing with this company. My honest opinion to anyone wanting to trust them with debt review, DON'T. They are the worst to work with and trust.
