You're our first priority. Every time.
We believe every South African should be able to make borrowing decisions with confidence. While we don't cover every credit provider in South Africa, we work hard to feature a wide range of NCR-registered lenders and provide objective editorial comparisons you can trust.
Affiliate compensation is one of several factors that may affect which products we highlight or where partner lenders appear within promotional placements. Other factors include loan availability, NCR registration status, customer review volume, and the editorial relevance of a lender to a specific guide or comparison page.
However, these factors do not influence our editors' opinions or our scores. Every rating is calculated using the same independent methodology applied to every lender, partner or not. Our partners cannot pay us to guarantee favourable reviews, hide negative customer feedback, or alter their score. If a partner performs poorly on customer reviews or NCR compliance, their rating reflects that.

Top Loans from Our Experts
Pros & Cons
Advantages
- ✓ Loan amounts start at just R500, which suits small, specific cash needs
- ✓ Terms go as short as 4 days, so you're not locked into a month-long commitment if you don't need it
- ✓ The 35% per annum rate is at the lower end for this type of short-term credit
- ✓ Fully online application process with no branch visits
Disadvantages
- ✗ Trust score of 2.1 out of 10 based on customer reviews we collected is very low and hard to dismiss
- ✗ Ranked 17th out of 37 lenders on our platform, there are meaningfully better options available
- ✗ Maximum loan of R4,000 won't cover much beyond a minor emergency
- ✗ No first loan free offer, which several competitors in this space do provide
- ✗ Limited public information about payout speeds and approval turnaround times
About Sunshine Loans
If you need R2,000 by Friday and your options are running out, Sunshine Loans will probably show up in your search results. They offer short-term loans from R500 to R4,000, with repayment terms as short as 4 days and as long as 35 days. That positions them squarely in the emergency cash space, not a long-term credit solution, and not something you'd use to fund anything bigger than a busted geyser or an unexpected bill.
Here's the thing though. When we looked at all 37 short-term lenders on our platform, Sunshine Loans ranked 17th. That's not terrible, but it's not reassuring either. A trust score of 2.1 out of 10, based on customer reviews we collected, is hard to ignore. There are better-rated options in this space.
We scored Sunshine Loans 4.9 out of 10. Usable in a pinch, but we'd want you to exhaust other options first.

3. Sunshine Loans reviews your application, which typically takes a few hours during business hours.
4. If approved, you'll receive a loan agreement to sign digitally before any money moves.
5. Once signed, funds are paid directly into your bank account, though exact payout times will depend on your bank and when approval lands.
How to Apply for a Sunshine Loans Loan
Visit the Sunshine Loans website at https://sunshineloans.co.za and click the apply button to start your application.
Enter the loan amount you need, between R500 and R4000, and select a repayment term between 4 and 35 days.
Fill in your personal details, including your South African ID number, contact information, and banking details.
Upload or submit the required supporting documents, which typically include a recent payslip, a bank statement, and proof of residence.
Review the loan agreement carefully, including the total repayment amount, fees, and the DebiCheck debit order mandate before signing.
Submit your application and wait for a decision, which is usually communicated via email or SMS.
Once approved and the agreement is signed, wait for the funds to be deposited into your nominated bank account.
Processing Time & Payout
Sunshine Loans typically processes applications within a few hours on business days, though payout times can vary depending on your bank and the time of day your application is approved. Payments made late in the afternoon or on weekends may only reflect in your account on the next business day. If your funds have not arrived within 24 hours of approval, it is advisable to follow up directly with the lender.

Who Is Sunshine Loans Best For?
Sunshine Loans suits someone who has a one-off cash shortfall before payday and needs a small amount fast. Think R500 to R2,000 to cover an emergency that can't wait. You'd need to be confident you can repay the full amount within 35 days, because rolling over short-term debt at any interest rate gets expensive quickly.
Is Sunshine Loans Safe & Legit?
Sunshine Loans operates in South Africa's regulated credit space and should be registered with the National Credit Regulator. All lenders in this country are required to comply with the National Credit Act, which means they must carry out affordability assessments before approving a loan and cannot charge fees above the prescribed limits. As a borrower, you have the right to apply for debt counselling if you find yourself in financial difficulty. We always recommend confirming any lender's NCR registration on the NCR's official website before you sign anything.

Where to Find Sunshine Loans
Sunshine Loans operates entirely online and does not have physical branch locations, meaning you can apply from anywhere in South Africa using a smartphone or computer. All communication, documentation, and payments are handled digitally through their website at https://sunshineloans.co.za.
Our Full Review
Let's start with the rate, because it's the one number that actually matters. Sunshine Loans charges 35% per annum. On the surface that sounds manageable. But short-term loans are almost always quoted annually while your actual loan runs for weeks, so you need to do the real maths. On a R4,000 loan over 35 days at 35% per annum, you're looking at paying back roughly R4,135 in interest alone, before any initiation fees or service fees that may apply under NCA rules. Not catastrophic, but not nothing either.
The rate itself is not the problem here. Thirty-five percent per annum is actually on the lower end for this category of lending, and that's a genuine positive. Some competitors in the short-term space charge multiples of that when you factor in all costs. So on paper, Sunshine Loans looks reasonable.
What's harder to get past is the trust score. We collected 34 customer reviews and the resulting trust score came out at 2.1 out of 10. That's low. Really low. Customer feedback at that level tends to point to issues with communication, unexpected fees, or poor service when things go wrong. We can't tell you exactly what went wrong in each case, but a pattern that consistent across 34 reviews is a signal worth taking seriously.
So is Sunshine Loans worth applying to? If you've already checked the higher-ranked lenders on our platform and come up empty, and you need a small amount quickly, then it's not an outright no. The loan range of R500 to R4,000 covers genuine short-term gaps, and the rate isn't predatory. But going in with low expectations around customer service seems wise based on what we've seen.
Our honest verdict: there are 16 better-rated lenders ahead of Sunshine Loans on our platform. Start there.

Sunshineloans is a ****, they will charge you for loans that have never been paid out
Sunshineloans is a ****, I have app**** for a loan and received and agreement which was signed but no funds have been paid into my account. I have tried calling their contact number which is invalid, no response to my email and I have already agreed to the debicheck mandate on the account. There is no way to cancel the debicheck as it has a no dispute on the debit meaning that customers will never get their money back. They are uncontactable so you can expect that this will never be resolved and you can say goodbye to your hard earned money. Its not too late for you, hope that you can learn from my experience and this information will help to prevent you from also being ****med. Please stay away from this **** loan company.
Bad service
Not happy with their service I took a loan on the 27/07/2024 and settled it on the 27/08/2024 sent through my proof of payment immediately. However they came to my account on the 23/01/2026 a year and 5 months later to debit my account. Does that make sense that your system decides to debit my account now. Despite my politeness, calling them numerous times and every agent keeps on saying they are escalating my query to a manager. Can someone take ownership for the bad service you are giving Sunshine Loans and resolve my query. I want my money back.
Horrible and unprofessional service.
I settled my payday loan early 19/01/26 and sent through my proof of payment. However they still debited my account. I sent numerous emails with no response. The phone number on their website doesn't work. I requested my refund via email and they don't respond. Don't know how I'm going to get my money back.

Accounts department apparently
You pay before the time then it’s “accounts department” that must fix the issue , you pay on time SAME THING! this is horrible! I feel so bad for the customer service agents why not allow an option to connect directly to this invisible accounts department that are struggling to fix the issue because it’s pathetic!

Frequently Asked Questions
How much can I borrow from Sunshine Loans?
You can borrow between R500 and R4,000. That's a fairly narrow range suited to small emergency cash needs rather than anything larger. If you need more than R4,000, you'll need to look at a different lender.
What interest rate does Sunshine Loans charge?
Sunshine Loans charges 35% per annum. For short-term lending in South Africa, that's actually on the lower end of what's out there. But remember that additional fees like initiation fees and monthly service fees can add to the total cost, and these are regulated under the National Credit Act.
How fast does Sunshine Loans pay out?
Sunshine Loans doesn't publish a specific payout guarantee. Based on how similar lenders operate, you can generally expect same-day or next-day payment if your application is approved during business hours and all your documents are in order. Don't count on weekend payouts.
Is Sunshine Loans registered with the NCR?
All legal credit providers in South Africa are required to be registered with the National Credit Regulator. We recommend verifying Sunshine Loans' registration directly on the NCR website at ncr.org.za before you apply, just to be sure.
Can I get a Sunshine Loans loan with bad credit?
Short-term lenders like Sunshine Loans tend to be more flexible on credit history than banks, but they are still legally required to run an affordability assessment under the NCA. A very poor credit record or existing judgements may still result in a declined application. It's worth applying, but it's not guaranteed.
What documents do I need?
You'll need your South African ID, 3 months of bank statements, proof of income, proof of address not older than 3 months, and a valid mobile number and email address. Having these ready before you start speeds things up.
Does Sunshine Loans pay out on weekends?
Sunshine Loans may process applications over the weekend, but actual funds are typically only deposited on business days due to South African banking processing schedules. If your loan is approved on a Saturday or Sunday, you may only receive the money on the following Monday. It is best to plan your application ahead of time if you need funds urgently.
Does Sunshine Loans have a WhatsApp number?
Sunshine Loans does not appear to offer a publicly listed WhatsApp contact number at this time. For queries, it is recommended to use the contact details available on their official website at https://sunshineloans.co.za. If you are struggling to reach them, keep records of all your communication attempts in case you need to escalate a complaint.
What should I do if Sunshine Loans debited my account but I did not receive my money?
If a DebiCheck debit order has been processed against your account but no funds were paid out to you, you should first contact Sunshine Loans in writing via their official email address and keep a copy of your correspondence. If you do not receive a response within a reasonable time, you have the right to dispute the debit order directly with your bank and to lodge a complaint with the National Credit Regulator at www.ncr.org.za. You may also approach the Credit Ombud if the issue remains unresolved.
Can I get a refund if Sunshine Loans overcharged me?
If you believe you have been incorrectly charged or overcharged by Sunshine Loans, you should send a written complaint to their customer service email along with your proof of payment and loan agreement. Under the National Credit Act, a credit provider is obligated to correct billing errors and refund any amount collected in excess of what was agreed. If the lender does not respond or resolve the matter, you can escalate your complaint to the National Credit Regulator or the Credit Ombud.
How do I cancel a DebiCheck mandate with Sunshine Loans?
A DebiCheck mandate is a formal debit order agreement authenticated through your bank, and cancelling it requires you to either contact Sunshine Loans directly to request cancellation or instruct your bank to cancel the authenticated mandate. Keep in mind that cancelling a debit order does not cancel your outstanding loan debt, and you will still be liable for the repayment amount. Always settle your loan in full before cancelling a mandate to avoid additional fees or legal action.
